WESTERVILLE, Ohio (February 13, 2022) – The Denison University men's track & field team sent athletes to compete at three different meets this weekend.
 
OWU OPEN: Denison competed at the 2022 Ohio Wesleyan Open on the night of Friday, February 11. Ari Skolnik won both the 60 meter hurdles prelims and finals, Gabe Springer and Porter Fitzgerald went 1-2 in the weight throw, and Springer also added a second-place finish in the shot put. Grant Plasch finished sixth in the pole vault and ninth in the 200 meter dash, and Skolnik added an eighth-place finish in the 60 meter dash finals.

Event Winners:

• Ari Skolnik – 60 meter hurdles finals – 9.00 seconds
• Ari Skolnik – 60 meter hurdles prelims – 9.01 seconds
• Gabe Springer – weight throw – 13.97 meters (45'10")

Top-10 Finishes:

• Gabe Springer – second place in the shot put – 12.67 meters (41'7")
• Porter Fitzgerald – second place in the weight throw – 11.71 meters (38'5")
• Grant Plasch – sixth place in the pole vault – 3.65 meters (11'11.75")
• Ari Skolnik – eighth place in the 60 meter dash finals – 7.30 seconds
• Andrew Brown – eighth place in the 200 meter dash – 24.96 seconds
• Ari Skolnik – ninth place in the 60 meter dash prelims – 7.28 seconds
• Grant Plasch – ninth place in the 200 meter dash – 24.97 seconds

 
GVSU BIG MEET: In addition to the OWU Open on Friday, Denison also sent distance runner Keanan Ginell to the Grand Valley State University Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan, to run in the 5,000 meter run, and Ginell finished 17th out of 34 runners in Heat #4 with a time of 15:01.71.
 
ALL-OHIO INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Then on Saturday, February 12, Denison placed seventh overall out of 18 teams with 35 points at the 2022 All-Ohio Indoor Track & Field Championships at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. Angelo Ricci finished fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump and Chris Slater was fifth in the weight throw. In the relay races, Denison got a third-place finish from its Distance Medley Relay team, a fifth-place finish from its 4x400 Meter Relay team, and a sixth-place mark from the 4x200 Meter Relay team.

All-Ohio Performances (Top-3):

• Jacob Brown – first place in the heptathlon – 4,226 points
• Distance Medley Relay team – third place – 10:42.92 (Zackary Johnston, Lance Tobasky, Will Cunningham, Worth Hinshaw)

Other Top-10 Finishes:

• Angelo Ricci – fifth place in the triple jump – 13.00 meters
• Chris Slater – fifth place in the weight throw – 16.34 meters
• Men's 4x400 Meter Relay team – fifth place – 3:35.26 (Malik Holley, Lance Tobasky, Jack Blais, Travis Dunson)
• Angelo Ricci – sixth place in the long jump – 6.71 meters
• 4x200 Meter Relay team – sixth place – 1:35.10 (Malik Holley, Jairus Branch, Jack Blais, Travis Dunson)
• Jack Blais – eighth place in the long jump – 6.39 meters
• Collin Hill – 10th place in the shot put – 13.61 meters
• Malik Holley – 10th place in the 200 meter dash – 23.09 seconds

 
NEXT UP: The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, February 19, when they travel to Springfield, Ohio, to take part in the Wittenberg Invitational.
