GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 12, 2022) – Denison University picked up one more event championship and nine all-conference performances on Saturday night, but it was not enough to catch up to Kenyon College as the Big Red placed second overall. Denison entered the final night trailing the Ladies by 88 points (1,256-1,168), but saw Kenyon push its lead to as many as 240 points while holding off the Big Red in the end. Kenyon totaled 1,958 points with DU trailing with 1,749.
Over the course of the four-day meet, Denison totaled four event wins by four different athletes, and posted 28 all-conference finishes.
The 1,650 freestyle started off the final night, and Denison claimed the top-two spots as
Alix O'Brien won it with an NCAA Division III National "B" cut time of 16:48.22 and
Tara Witkowski got second with a National "B" cut time of 16:48.89.
Esme Wright earned an all-conference certificate in the 100 IM with a time of 57.63 seconds to take second place.
Grace Kacmarek placed fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.11 and
Claire Moody touched in sixth in 2:07.95.
Denison placed six simmers in the top-10 of the standings in the 100 freestyle to cut Kenyon's lead from 240 points (1,560-1,320) to 177 points (1,654-1,477).
Annalise Cheshire earned all-conference with a third-place time of 51.01 seconds, and right behind her in fourth was
Tara Culibrk with a time of 51.21 seconds.
Natalie English was sixth in 51.68 seconds, making it three Big Red swimmers with National "B" cut times in the event. In the 8-9-10 spots were
Grace Kadlecik (52.19)
Annie Pfeufer (52.86) and
Lauren Richner (52.05; first in the B-final).
In the 200 breaststroke,
Devin Javens (2:20.31) and
Christina Crane (2:20.40) both earned an all-conference certificate by finishing in second and third place, respectively, and then
Savannah Sargent (2:21.06) finished right behind in fourth place as all three ladies had National "B" cut times. The 2-3-4 finish for the Big Red cut Kenyon's lead down a little bit further from 177 points to 148 points (1,715-1,567).
The 200 butterfly rounded out the individual events in the pool as
Emma Pritchett was all-conference in second place with a National "B" cut time of 2:02.75, and
Emma Berdelman earned a National "B" cut time as well of 2:05.46 to take fifth place.
On Thursday night, Denison's duo of
Kerstyn Johnson and
Maggie Seftenberg finished in second and third place, respectively, to both earn an all-conference nod on the 1-meter board. The same occurred on Saturday night on the 3-meter board as Johnson posted an 11-dive score of 475.50 points while Seftenberg finished with 457.85, both of which were National "B" cuts.
The meet was closed out by DU's second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay as Cheshire, Culibrk, English and Wright posted a National "B" cut time of 3:23.39.
