WOOSTER, Ohio (January 22, 2022) – The Denison University men's track & field team claimed three event victories on Saturday afternoon on its way to a first-place finish at the 2022 Fighting Scots Invitational held at the College of Wooster. Finishing the day with 139.50 team points, the Big Red landed ahead of Wooster (119 points) in second place and Wittenberg University (112 points) in third.
All three of Denison's event wins on the day came on the track as
Calvin Bailey (4:46.62) won the one mile run and
Charlie Webb (8.99 seconds) won the 60 meter hurdles. Denison's final victory came in the 4x400 meter relay where the combination of Webb,
Lance Tobasky,
Millan Henegar and
Jacob Brown finished with a time of 3:36.71, giving Webb a part of two event victories overall.
In all, the Big Red ended the day with 12 top-three finishes across 10 different events.
Among the six runner-up finishes for Denison were
Isaiah Kessler (3.95 meters) in the pole vault,
Chris Slater (13.94 meters) in the weight throw,
Tomas Brockett-Delgado in the mile (4:47.12) and in the 800 meter run (2:07.07),
Malik Holley (23.32 seconds) in the 200 meter dash, and
Nathan Bertman (9:06.94) in the 3,000 meter run.
Finishing in third place for the Big Red was
Jack Blais (6.15 meters) in the long jump,
Gabe Springer (13.58 meters) one spot behind Slater in the weight throw,
Ari Skolnik (9.33 seconds) in the 60 meter hurdles, and
Lance Tobasky (53.87 seconds) in the 400 meter dash.
Grant Plasch (3.35 meters) finished fifth in the pole vault and
Jason Spino (2.90 meters) was eighth, giving Denison three top-10 finishes in the event in addition to Kessler's performance.
In the shot put, Denison took each of the fourth through sixth positions as
Collin Hill (13.13 meters) was fourth, Springer (12.81 meters) was fifth and
Owen Mathes (12.73 meters) was sixth.
In the 60 meter dash, Holley (7.33 seconds) was sixth, Skolnik (7.34 seconds) was seventh and
Ethan Scott (7.41 seconds) was eighth.
