MEADVILLE, Pa. (September 27, 2021) – The Denison University women's golf team used a team score of 301 during round two at the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational on Monday to jump Carnegie Mellon University for first place out of nine teams at the par-71, 5,500-yard Country Club of Meadville in Pennsylvania.
Denison's second-round score was an impressive 20 strokes better than its score from day one, which at the time put the Big Red in second place. Carnegie Mellon (320-308; 628) finished six strokes behind Denison (321-301; 622) while the host school, Allegheny College (326-340; 666) was third and the College of Wooster (351-351; 702) was fourth.

Lauren Grogan said after the win, "After a tough first round, our women battled hard and improved 20 shots on day two. It was fun to be a part of. The windy conditions made it a grind for everyone, and the women stepped up today and got the job done."
All five players playing in the top-five for Denison improved upon their scores from round one to round two by at least three strokes.
Kate Griffin (80-72; 152) birdied two of her last three holes to finish with a career-low single-round score of 72 (+1) and win the 48-player tournament. Griffin began the final round in a three-player tie for sixth place before rising five spots on the leaderboard.
Laine Hursh (79-76; 155), who was the Big Red's low scorer in its top-five after found one, went from a three-player tie for third place to three-player tie for second place in the end.
Griffin led the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.88; +1) and in total pars (22), and was tied with Hursh for second in par-4 scoring (4.27; +6).
Sophia Alexander (80-76; 156), fresh off of breaking Denison's single-round scoring record last time out, matched Hursh's score during round two and went from being tied with Griffin for sixth place to finishing alone in fifth.
Ella McRoberts (83-77; 160) and
Julia Shafir (82-78; 160) both finished in a three-player tie for seventh place to round out Denison's top-five contributing to its team score. McRoberts went from a four-player tie for 13th to rising six spots after round two while Shafir rose four spots after tying for 11th after round one. McRoberts finished the tournament second in par-5 scoring (4.83; -1).
Playing as an individual for Denison but finishing alone in sixth place was
Megan Munn (78-80; 158), who found herself in second place after round one.
In addition to Munn, also playing as an individual for the Big Red was
Morgan Gilmore (85-85; 170), who finished in a three-player tie for 17th after both rounds.
