GRANVILLE, Ohio- Denison University will open the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament with a second round matchup versus Saint Mary's College (Indiana) on Sunday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. The match will be played on the campus of the University of Chicago.
Denison (9-1) qualified for its 22
nd NCAA Division III Championship by defeating the College of Wooster, 14-13 in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, May 1. Denison senior
Liza Farnham scored the game-winning goal as the final horn sounded to send the Big Red to it's record 22
nd conference championship. Denison is making its seventh straight trip to the NCAA postseason. In 2019, the Big Red advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to top-ranked Gettysburg.
DU is led offensively by Farnham who has totaled 30 goals and 12 assists in 10 games. Junior midfielder
Casey McTague has tallied 25 goals, three assists and 34 draw controls in eight contests. Defensively, senior
Charlotte Godfrey has enjoyed another stellar seasons as she leads the squad with 51 draw controls, 20 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls in 10 games. Denison has outscored its opponents 178-62.
Saint Mary's (13-4) will be making its first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance after defeating Hope College, 14-13 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship. They bring a record of 13-4 into the postseason and are led by one of the top scorers in the nation in Erin Doyle. In 16 contests, Doyle has scored 88 goals and dished out 29 assists.
The winner of the second round match between Denison and Saint Mary's will advance to regional play on May 15-16 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where they will face the winner of the Carroll (Wisconsin) and Aurora second round contest.
