NAPERVILLE, Ill. – In their final attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, Denison men's and women's track & field traveled to North Central College on Wednesday afternoon to compete in the two-day Gregory Last Chance Invitational at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Illinois.
Highlighting DU's efforts at the invite's opening day was freshman
Jacob Brown who currently sits in third place in the decathlon. Totaling 3,298 points through the first five events, Brown has posted a trio of top-three performances, including a first-place finish in the shot put thanks to a winning throw of 36'3.50" (11.06 meters). He also placed second overall in the high jump with a leap of 5'10.75" (1.80 meters) and then tallied a third-place showing in the 100-meter dash after he clocked in at 11.37.
In the long jump, Brown earned a fourth-place finish after he checked in with a maximum effort of 20'8.50" (6.31 meters). He also claimed a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a final time of 52.88. Brown is currently 123 points behind the leader, Wheaton's Isaiah Clausen, entering the final day of the decathlon where the field will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500-meter run on Thursday.
On the women's side, freshman
Kylee Silverman headlined the Big Red's efforts in the hammer throw competition. Going up against a field of 21 competitors, Silverman logged a 12
th-place finish following a final distance of 139'5" (42.51 meters).
Denison will return to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Thursday, May 20 at 12 p.m. where they will take part in the final day of the Gregory Last Chance Invitational.
