GRANVILLE, Ohio – Highlighted by a new school record time from junior
Keanan Ginell in the 3,000-meter run, Denison men's track & field tallied seven individual victories on Friday night as they hosted their second quad meet of the outdoor season at Piper Stadium in Granville.
- Posting four of their seven event titles in the running events on Friday, none were more dominant than Ginell's new school record in the 3,000-meter run. Clocking in with a new program-best time of 8:46.52, Ginell bested his previous 3K PR from the indoor season which sat at 8:49.19. Staying in the distance events, freshman Worth Hinshaw took first overall in the 1,500-meter run after clocking in at 4:13.16. David Judd followed in second at 4:13.91. Seven Lindsey earned a win for DU in the 200-meter dash after he posted the ninth-best personal record in school history at 21.94.
- Sophomore Charlie Webb finished second overall in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.46 and Lance Tobasky also earned a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a final time of 1:00.30. The pair then joined Millan Henegar and Benjamin Rumsfeld in the 4X400-meter relay and took first overall at 3:34.60.
- The Big Red also added a trio of wins in the field events, including a pair of wins in the jumps from Angelo Ricci and Ian Thompson. In the triple jump, Ricci won the event with a maximum leap of 42'8.75" (13.02 meters) and Jacob Brown followed in second at 42' (12.80 meters). Ricci also took second overall in the long jump after checking in at 21'10.25" (6.66 meters), the seventh-best PR in program history. In the high jump, Thompson captured the gold medal with a final mark of 5'11.50" (1.82 meters), while Brown followed in second (5'11.50"). Brown also earned his third silver medal of the day in the javelin when he posted a maximum launch of 138'10" (42.32 meters).
- In the discus, sophomore Gabe Springer muscled home the fifth-best PR in the history of the program when he landed a winning mark of 144'5" (44.02 meters). In the hammer throw, Austin Burgess led the Big Red in second place at 142'2" (43.34 meters) and Springer added another personal record at 131'6" (40.08 meters) to land in fifth place. In the shot put, Burgess finished third overall at 39'5.25" (12.02 meters) and Springer took fourth at 39'1" (11.91 meters).
The Big Red will return to action next Thursday, May 6 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the 2021 NCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Competition will begin at 1 p.m. and Ohio Wesleyan will provide a
live video broadcast of the events within the stadium.
