Men’s Track & Field takes down Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Denison men's track & field compiled 10 individual victories on Saturday afternoon as the Big Red handed an 81-60 defeat to Wittenberg University at the Steemer Field House in Springfield.

In the field events, the Big Red racked up five event titles, headlined by a pair of wins from sophomore Angelo Ricci. In the long jump, Ricci won the event with a leap of 21'8.25" (6.61 meters), which comes in as the eighth-best personal record in school history. He also won the triple jump on a maximum distance of 43'8.50" (13.32 meters). In the weight throw, Gabe Springer led the pack in first place with a winning throw of 42'10" (13.07 meters), good for the third longest PR in program history. Austin Burgess followed in third with a PR throw of 39'3" and Porter Fitzgerald entered the DU Personal Best Top-10 list at 36'4". Burgess also won the shot put with a final mark of 39'7.75" (12.08 meters). In the pole vault, Isaiah Kessler took home the gold with a winning launch of 13'6.50" (4.13 meters).

On the track, junior Seven Lindsey dominated the sprinting events with a pair of wins in the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter dash. In the 200, Lindsey won the event after setting a new school record with a final time of 22.43. Charlie Webb followed in fifth at 23.35, also cracking the Top-10 PR list. In the 60-meter finals, Lindsey took first overall after claiming the second-fastest personal record in DU history at 7.08. Webb also brought a win back to Granville when he won the 60-meter hurdles 8.60. In the one-mile run, Worth Hinshaw led the Big Red with a first-place finish after crossing the finish line in 4:31.06. Junior Keanan Ginell also entered the Top-10 PR list in the 3,000-meter run after winning the event in 8:49.19.

In the pentathlon, Jacob Brown landed four different top-two finishes on the day to place second overall with 3,110 points. He opened the day with a second-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles (9.32) before placing second in the long jump (20'3.75"), shot put (35'8.75"), and 1,000-meter run (2:58.26).

Denison will open their outdoor season on Saturday, March 27 when they travel to Wooster, Ohio for the Wooster Quad Meet.
