GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison women's swimming picked up a 172-87 dual meet victory over Division I Xavier University on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
The Big Red posted victories in 10 events and swept both relays to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Maddie Hopkins and
Tara Culibrk led Denison with four wins apiece. Hopkins won the 50 free in 24.36 and took first in the 100 fly with a time of 57.55. Culibrk took home wins in the 200 free (1:53.77) and the 100 free (53.20).
The pair also swam on the winning 200 medley relay with
Lily Kernaghan and
Esme Wright. The foursome posted a time of 1:47.75 to kick off the meet.
In the final event of the day,
Mia Chiappe joined Hopkins, Culibrk, and Kernaghan to win by over three seconds with a time of 3:32.97.
Nikki Banas was a two-time winner as she swept the distance free events. In the 1000 free she hit the wall in 10:42.01 while her teammate,
Grace Kacmarek placed second in 10:51.32. She returned to edge teammate
Kelly Derasmo in the 500 free by .67 seconds. Barnas touched in 5:16.31 while Derasmo finished in 5:16.98.
Wright, who swam on the 200 medley relay, was a three-time winner. She took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.31 while
Olivia Lantry took second in 1:07.88.
In the 400 IM, Wright took first in 4:33.88 while
Savannah Sargent finished third in 4:38.08. The closest event of the day was the 200 breaststroke that saw the top-four spots separated by just 0.6.
Christina Crane led DU with a third place time of 2:28.36.
Denison returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 when they host Wooster at 11 a.m. The meet will be streamed live by the Denison Sports Network beginning at 10:45 a.m.
