Men’s track & field opens indoor season at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (December 4, 2021) – The Denison University men's track & field team opened its 2021-22 indoor season at the Tiger Open hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday.

Freshman Chris Slater had the best finish on the day for the Big Red, taking second place in the weight throw with a long toss of 16.09 meters (52' 9") while adding another top-10 mark with a sixth-place finish in the shot put at 13.27 meters (43' 6½").

Also in the field events, freshman Liam Quinlan placed fifth in the high jump with a top leap of 1.77 meters (5' 9¾") while junior Angelo Ricci was sixth in the long jump at 6.47 meters (21' 2¾"). Additionally, freshman Jack Blais had a nice start to his collegiate career with an eighth-place finish in the long jump at 6.30 meters (20' 8").

Sophomore Jacob Brown finished in the top-10 in three different events after taking eighth place in the high jump at 1.77 meters (5' 9¾"), ninth place in the 60 meter hurdle prelims with a time of 9.16 seconds, and 10th place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.51 meters (11' 6¼").

Junior Charlie Webb had Denison's best effort on the track with a third-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles and a time of 8.57 seconds.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action on Saturday, January 15, when it travels to Westerville, Ohio, to compete in the 2022 Snow Globe Open at Otterbein University.
