AKRON, Ohio (October 15, 2021) – The 2021-22 Denison University women's swimming season got underway on Friday night at the Zips Classic, hosted by the University of Akron at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium. The Big Red totaled 233 points on Friday and sit in second place out of four teams through the first of three sessions. Denison trails only Akron (493.5 points) while Youngstown State University (179 points) is third and Xavier University (158.5 points) is fourth.
Session 1 - Friday, Oct. 15 - 5 p.m.
The season was kicked off by the 400 medley relay in which freshman
Lauren Richner, junior
Christina Crane, freshman
Maja Palmroos and freshman
Avery Vogen finished sixth with a time of 3:54.28.
Freshman
Alix O'Brien followed with an NCAA Division III National "B" cut time of 4:57.40 to win the 500 freestyle.
Next was the 200 IM, which saw sophomore
Esme Wright finished fifth with a time of 2:06.35 to grab a National "B" cut of her own.
In the final individual event of the night, the 50 freestyle, freshman
Grace Kadlecik took 11th place with a time of 24.08 seconds.
The night was capped off by the second of two relays to take place on Friday, the 800 freestyle relay, which saw O'Brien, freshman

Tara Culibrk finish fifth with a time of 7:42.69 while sophomore
Nikki Barnas, freshman
Annie Pfeufer, freshman
Avery Vogen and Wright were sixth with a time of 7:46.28.
The Akron Zips Classic will be closed out on Saturday, October 16, with two sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
