Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa.- No. 21 Denison suffered a 13-6 loss to No. 3 Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon. The Bullets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on the visiting Big Red thanks to two goals and two assists from Bri Stokes in the first six minutes of action.
Denison cut the lead in half with 18:21 to play in the first on Liza Farnham's free-position goal. Gettysburg netted two more goals to close out the first half to take an 8-3 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Bullets pushed its lead to seven on consecutive goals by Courtney Patterson. Lindsey Karsh ended the four-goal scoring run with a goal that was assisted by Allaire Kotz. Denison's scoring was rounded out by Ryann Tospa and Casey McTague.
Farnham and McTague led Denison with two goals apiece. McTague also paced the defense with three caused turnovers. Paris Healey finished with four ground balls and Charlotte Godfrey led the way with four draw controls in addition to three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Last week's IWLCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week, Maeve Caldwell, finished with 13 saves. Caldwell has posted double-digit saves in each of her first three games to start the 2020 season.
Gettysburg held a 37-20 advantage in shots while controlling 13 draws compared to eight by the Big Red. Patterson and Stokes tied for the team-lead in scoring with three goals apiece. Stokes also added three assists.
Four of Denison's six goals came via 8-meter attempts. Denison was 4-of-9 on free position shots while the Bullets were 3-of-6.
With the loss, Denison drops to 1-2 on the season while Gettysburg improves to 3-0. The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday (March 4) when they host No. 7 York College at 4:30 p.m. at Piper Stadium.
