#21 Brockport edges #22 Denison in Women's Lacrosse

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—No. 22 Denison suffered a 14-12 loss to No. 21 Brockport on Sunday afternoon at Bob Boozer Field.  The two teams were tied at 10-10 with 14:07 to play after Casey McTague's goal that was assisted by Kiely Noonan.

Brockport took back the lead one minute later on Allison Jennings' goal.  The Golden Eagles held the one-goal lead over the next seven minutes before going up two on Chole Kurst's goal.

The Big Red responded with a goal by Noonan on an assist by Molly Fischer.  Brockport followed the DU goal by controlling the draw and with 3:43 remaining, Natalie Strough scored to give the home team a 13-11 lead.

Courtney Cunningham managed another big win for Brockport on the ensuing draw and she followed with a goal to put her team on top 14-11 with 2:20 to play. 

The Big Red did sneak in one more goal on Liza Farnham's feed from Carlie Grandjean with 56 seconds left, setting the final at 14-12.

Farnham and Noonan led Denison with three goals apiece.  Noonan also added two assists, three ground balls, and two draw controls.  Charlotte Godfrey piled up nine draw controls, seven ground balls, and one goal.

McTague added two goals, one assist, three ground balls, and three draw controls.  Maeve Caldwell posted 16 saves while facing 30 shots on goal. 

The Big Red held a 37-36 advantage in shots and each team's goalie posted 16 saves.  Brockport was led in scoring by Kurst's five goals and one assist.  Natalie Strough finished with three goals and two assists.

The Big Red drops to 1-1 and returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 29) when they take on No. 4 Gettysburg at 1 p.m. in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
