Dixie enjoys record day at NCAC Heptathlon

OBERLIN, Ohio – Senior James Dixie closed out the final day of the heptathlon with four new personal records and a school-record as he placed fourth overall at the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events Championship hosted at Oberlin College.

Finishing the weekend with a new personal and school record score of 4,137, Dixie landed 10 points ahead of Wabash's Ballard Suiter in fifth place (4,127) while falling 154 points shy of third-place Max Bigler from Wabash (4,291). Oberlin's Adriano Atallah kept the conference championship in Oberlin with a weekend-high tally of 4,475.

After securing 2,381 points during the first day of action, Dixie posted new personal records in the final three events of the competition, including top-five showings in the 60-meter hurdles and the pole vault.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Dixie clocked in with a new PR time of 9.12 to finish in fifth place. He also recorded a new PR in the pole vault as he tied for fifth place at 10'8" (3.25 meters). In the final event of the day, Dixie earned an eighth-place finish in the 1,000-meter run after checking in with a new career-best time of 3:04.84.

Dixie and the Big Red will return to action next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28-29 when they host the 2020 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
