DELAWARE, Ohio – Denison men's track & field placed sixth overall at the Ohio Wesleyan Open on Friday night in Delaware. Collecting 37 team points on the night, the Big Red finished 4.5 points ahead of seventh-place Bluffton (32.5) and six points behind Muskingum in fifth (43). Ohio Wesleyan kept the team title at home with 79 points.
Led by seven, top-10 finishes in the field events, senior James Dixie tallied a first-place finish in the triple jump event where he reached a final mark of 41'0.25" (12.50 meters). Junior Justin Wolfe followed in sixth place at 36'7.50" (11.16 meters). Dixie also finished third overall in the high jump with a maximum effort of 5'7" (1.70 meters).
In the weight throw, the Big Red posted a pair of finishes in the top-10, including Austin McManus in eighth place at 42'2" (12.85 meters) and Grant Balogh in ninth place at 41'10.75" (12.77 meters). Austin Burgess followed with a throw of 35'7.75" (10.86 meters) in 14th place. Burgess also competed in the shot put and took eighth place at 36'5" (11.10 meters). McManus took 11th overall (33'7.50") and Gabe Springer landed in 13th place (31'6.50").
The Big Red also took eighth overall on the long jump when Wayne Chen reached a leap of 18'9.75" (5.73 meters). Chen also competed in the 60-meter dash and placed 18th overall with a final time of 7.70. Shin Yano led the team in 12th place at 7.60 and Lewis Hurd took 24th at 8.11.
In the 200 meter dash, Wolfe took 10th overall with a final time of 25.19. Yano landed in 12th place at 25.34 and Hilton Sanchez finished in 17th place (25.90).
Denison will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Otterbein University for the 2020 All-Ohio Championship in Westerville. The competition will begin at 12 p.m.
