Field Hockey suffers first setback at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa.—Denison field hockey suffered its first setback of the season on Friday night, falling 2-1 to Washington & Jefferson at Cameron Stadium.

The Presidents took a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game off a goal from Rachel Fromm on an assist by Josephine Robson.  Five minutes into the second half, Robson gave her squad a 2-0 lead.

Denison got to within one goal with 4:12 left in regulation when Abby Scully found Charlotte Godfrey camped at the right post.  Godfrey's shot went over the outstretched Rena Israel in goal.

The Big Red managed one final penalty corner attempt with 2:27 left but were unable to score the equalizer.

Denison outshot W&J 6-4 as Israel finished with three saves for the Presidents and Teya Adams posted a pair of saves for the Big Red.  Godfrey paced DU in shots with three.

The Big Red returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 8) when they host Washington and Lee at 11 a.m. in the home opener at Piper Stadium.
