GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Denison women's lacrosse had their NCAA Tournament run come to an end on Saturday afternoon following a 14-3 loss to No. 1 Gettysburg College in the regional semifinals hosted at Clark Field. The Big Red ended the 2019 season at 16-5 overall while the Bullets improved to 19-1 and advanced to Sunday's regional championship.

Entering Saturday's matchup with recent experience against the Bullets (last played on March 3, 2019), the Big Red relied on a strong defensive front that forced 12 Gettysburg turnovers in the first half and held the home team to three goals in the first ten minutes of action.

Denison countered their defensive front with an offensive attack that took eight shots in the first 22 minutes of action, including back-to-back shots from Kiely Noonan and Casey McTague, with the latter being saved by GC's Bailey Pilder.

Trailing 7-0 in the first half, the Big Red broke their scoreless drought at 6:52 when McTague drew a free position and collected her 47th goal of the season to bring DU within six.

After Gettysburg's Liza Barr answered with her second goal of the game, sophomore Molly Fischer kept Denison alive in the 25th minute when she accepted a pass from Noonan and cashed in for her 33rd goal of the season. The Big Red trailed the Bullets, 8-2.

Two more goals from Gettysburg in the first half gave the Bullets a 10-2 lead at the break.

In the second half, GC worked the shot clocked and held the Big Red to six shots in the final period, including just three shots in the final 20 minutes of play.

Denison's final goal came from senior Virginia Hamilton who totalled her 14th goal of the season with 5:52 remaining in the game.

Collecting 18 ground balls for the game and achieving 15 of their 20 clear attempts, the Big Red received their scoring from McTague, Fischer, and Hamilton, while McTague and Liza Farnham led the team in shots with three each. Fischer, Paris Healey, Hannah Magarian, and Jane Goodspeed each posted three ground balls, while Goodspeed rounded out her tremendous career with an additional two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Leaving Denison with the most draw controls and caused turnovers for a game, season, and career, Goodspeed ends her four years in Granville with 236 ground balls, 371 DCs, and 151 CTs. She is also the program's all-time leader in games played with 79, surpassing former teammate Halle Walsh's 76 from a season ago.

Barr led the Bullets with seven points on three goals and four assists, while Maria Nemeth also added three goals.

In the cage, Magarian suffered her fifth loss of the season following an eight-save performance in 60 minutes played. GC's Bailey Pilder improved to 18-1 after posting 11 saves in a full game effort.

Denison ended the 2019 campaign with a record of 16-5 and their fourth-straight 8-0 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play. Head coach Amanda Daniels also became the program's all-time winningest coach with 85 wins after securing consecutive 16-win seasons for the first time in school history.
