Brockport stuns Big Red in overtime

Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison's season-opener was spoiled in overtime by visiting Brockport as the Golden Eagles escaped Piper Stadium with a 16-15 overtime victory over No. 25 Denison.

Denison led 10-6 at halftime and was on top by three goals with 10 minutes to play after Casey McTague's goal off a pass from Maddy Heher.

In a game that was plagued by 60 total fouls, 8-meter attempts were both plentiful and pivotal.  Brockport scored on consecutive free-position shots as Heather Conklin and Victoria Thompson got their team to within one goal of the lead with seven minutes to play in regulation.

McTague followed with a free-position goal for Denison but three-straight goals by Brockport put them in the lead for the first time since the opening goal of the game with 1:25 left in the second half.

Denison won the ensuing draw and Lindsey Karsh converted an 8-meter shot with 55 seconds left to tie the game at 15-15 and force overtime.

In overtime, Denison's Jane Goodspeed controlled the draw, but Karsh's potential game-winner was turned away by Brockport goalie Julia Hoyser.  At the other end, Jade Williams ended the game with a goal off a pass from Sara Grapevine.

Hannah Magarian posted 14 saves in goal for Denison and McTague scored five goals in her collegiate debut.  Karsh added three goals followed by two goals and one assist for Kiely Noonan.  Goodspeed led all players with 11 draw controls while tying with Charlotte Godfrey with five ground balls.

Brockport was led in scoring by Thompson's four goals on five shot attempts.  Conklin added three goals and led the Golden Eagles with eight draw controls.

Denison (0-1) returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 24) when they host Fredonia at 1 p.m. at Piper Stadium.
