GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Denison men's track and field tallied 39 team points on Saturday afternoon to place seventh overall at the Kenyon Classic hosted in Gambier, Ohio at the Kenyon Athletic Center. The Big Red finished eight points ahead of Bethany (W.V.) in eighth place (31) and trailed Mount Vernon Nazarene in sixth place with 67.50 points.
Junior James Dixie led DU with three finishes in the top 15, highlighted by a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 40'10.50" (12.46 meters). In the high jump, Dixie placed seventh overall on a career-best distance of 5'8.50" (1.74 meters). Ryan Fleming paced DU in the high jump in second place at 6'2.25" (1.89 meters).
Dixie garnered another PR in the pole vault after reaching a height of 10'00" (3.05 meters) to place 15th overall.
In the long jump, junior Jake Coplin finished in second with a 20'3.50" (6.18 meters), and Alex Chin landed in seventh at 19'4.25" (5.90 meters).
Rounding out the field events was junior Bryce Stricker who competed in the weight throw event at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday. Placing 15th overall, Stricker reached a distance of 52'2" (15.90 meters).
On the track, the Big Red found success in the distance and sprint events, led by a third-place finish from Niall Clancey in the one-mile race where he clocked in at 4:31.67. Rhys Fitschen-Brown placed 19th overall (4:53.90) and Henri Hegemier followed in 35th with a PR of 5:19.45. Fitschen Brown also finished 26th overall in the 800-meter run in 2:16.45.
In the sprints, freshman Seven Lindsey placed fifth overall in the 200-meter dash and logged a final time of 23.68. Jack Ruddy placed 11th and clocked in at 24.16, while Esteban Sainz (19th - 24.95), Otto Laakonen (21st - 25.08), and Zackary Johnston (31st - 26.24) also competed.
In the 400 meter dash, Laakonen led the DU in 17th place with a personal best of 55.13 and Johnston followed with his own PR of 57.19 in 23rd.
The Big Red will return to action next Friday, February 22 when Denison hosts the NCAC Last Chance Meet at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
