Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Paige Matijasich scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Kenyon to a 57-47 win over Denison on Wednesday night at Livingston Gym.
For the second-straight game, Denison struggled to find its rhythm on the offensive end. They trailed the Ladies 25-14 at halftime after shooting 19 percent in the first half.
Denison mounted a comeback in the third quarter powered by back-to-back 3-pointers from Alison Schafer. Her pair of treys cut the Kenyon lead to three with 3:08 left in the third. A turnover by Kenyon gave the ball back to the Big Red and Lauren Hofer scored and was fouled in the paint giving DU a chance to tie the game with 2:20 remaining. Hofer missed the and-one and Kenyon responded with a 9-0 run over the final two minutes of the third quarter to take a 42-32 lead into the fourth.
In the final period, a 3-pointer by Zyah Beal got Denison to within five points of the lead but that is as close as the Big Red would get. Kenyon outscored DU 8-3 over the final 4:38 to lock up the win.
Hofer led Denison in scoring with 10 points and tied the for the team lead in rebounds with six. Shonta Lockett finished with eight points and six rebounds while Beal and Schafer chipped in seven points apiece.
Denison drops to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Kenyon improves to 4-6 and 1-2 in the NCAC. The Big Red won't return to action until Saturday, Dec. 28 when they face Trine University at Otterbein University at 7 p.m.
