Granville, Ohio- Denison University women's basketball welcomes Erin Kumler to the 2026-27 coaching staff.
Kumler joins the staff after two seasons as the assistant coach at St. Lawrence University, where she led practice planning, opponent scouting, and player development. As a Saint, Kumler contributed to a culture of academic excellence, coaching 12 academic all-conference players, including a Liberty League first-team all-conference player, and helped lead St. Lawrence to its first conference tournament semifinal game since the 2021-22 season, when Kumler was a player.
"I could not be more excited to welcome Erin to the Denison family," said Head Coach Maureen "Mo" Hirt. "Throughout the search process, I kept coming back to the same feeling: Erin genuinely loves coaching, invests in people, and will pour herself into our student-athletes and program every single day."
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Kumler attended Northfield Mount Hermon School during her junior and senior years, graduating with the girls basketball team award, and was a four-year member of the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team, ECAC Rookie of the month during her 2018-19 season, and was a part of the program's winningest season in 2021-22, her senior season.
Hirt continues to share that, "She brings an incredible combination of competitiveness, authenticity, and intentionality, along with a passion for helping young women grow on and off the court. Our players are getting an outstanding coach, mentor, and role model, and I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside her as we continue building something special at Denison."
"Transitioning into coaching two years ago was a leap of faith that has proven to be incredibly rewarding," stated Kumler about her coaching journey. "I absolutely love the challenges and rewards that come with coaching and feel so incredibly lucky and excited to continue perfecting my craft at a place like Denison! I'm excited to dive into the role and collaborate with the great coaches and players around me! "
Kumler graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and returned to her alma mater to earn a Master of Arts in Leadership.
