Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship after a 2-0 victory over DePauw University in the semifinal round on Wednesday at Piper Stadium. With the win, Denison will host Kenyon College in the NCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
The Big Red took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring off their first penalty corner attempt of the contest. With the ball still loose, Hunt ran toward the goal, secured possession, played the ball to herself and tipped the ball into the goal while it was in the air.
With two and a half minutes to play in the second quarter, DePauw's Maria Hewitt was issued a yellow card that forced her to sit out the first 2:30 of the second half. Just over one minute into the second half, Maddie DeAscentis was issued a green card, giving the Big Red a two-player advantage. Just seconds after Hewitt's penalty time expired, the Big Red scored its second goal of the contest when Hunt tipped in a shot by Charlotte Godfrey off a short corner.
Over the final 30 minutes, the Big Red outshot the Tigers 5-4. In the fourth quarter, Teya Adams made a big save on a shot by Allison Quackenbush with eight minutes left.
Denison nearly made it a 3-0 game in the final seconds but a defensive save by Maddi Little on a shot by Maya Tumiwa kept the differential at two.
The Big Red outshot the Tigers 12-7 and won the corner battle, 5-2. Duranceau finished with five saves for DePauw. Tumiwa and Godfrey led Denison in shots with three apiece.
Denison is seeking its third-straight NCAC Tournament Championship and the program's fourth overall since the conference tournament was established in 2002.
