Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison scored 42 unanswered points and doubled-up the DePauw Tigers in time of possession. The result was a 42-7 victory in front of 1,700 at Piper Stadium. With the win, Denison improves to 7-1 and remains in a tie for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference at 6-1 in league play.
After a quick 5-play 62-yard drive that ended with a 7-yard TD run by Jarrod Stiver, the Tigers found themselves leading Denison 7-0. The Big Red responded with a 10-play 75-yard drive that was capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Drew Dawkins to Dallas Griffiths. The extra-point by Pat Kramer tied the game at 7-7.
DePauw put together another nice drive on its second possession and on 4th and Goal from the 1-yard line, Tiger quarterback Collin Knect threw a screen pass to Clay Gietl that was stuffed by Ryan Hallinan and Andrew Smith for a loss of two yards, resulting in a turnover on downs.
Over the final three quarters, DePauw managed only 87 yards of total offense. The defense was led by Hallinan with 11 tackles. Denison sacked Knect five times as Chase Struewing led the way with two sacks and one forced fumble. Nate Keirn, already the NCAC's leader in sacks, added 1.5 on the day to run his season total to 9.0. Keirn also added six tackles, tying him with Andrew Smith for second-most on the day.
Overall, DePauw was held to 195 total yards and 36 yards on the ground. The Tigers had the football for only 19 minutes.
The Denison offense was once again led by senior running back Alex Minton who carried the ball 27 times for 151 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also caught a 15-yard TD pass from Dawkins in the second quarter. Minton moved into a tie for first place in career rushing touchdowns (40). He also became just the second player in Denison's history to post three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Minton is at 1,054 yards with two regular season games to go. His career rushing yardage sits at 3,423 yards, which is fourth all-time. He needs 304 yards to pass Clay Sampson for third-place in Denison history.
Dawkins was 9-of-15 for 147 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He added 40 yards rushing on nine carries. Peyton Vining had six receptions for 103 yards while Griffiths followed with two grabs for 29 yards and a TD.
Kramer was 6-for-6 on PAT's, running his season total to a perfect 40-for-40. Kramer set the Denison single-season record for PAT's last season (50).
The Big Red will travel to Delaware, Ohio next Saturday (Nov. 9) for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Ohio Wesleyan.
