Denison extends NCAC winning streak to 24

Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after a convincing 19-3 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday at Piper Stadium.  The win runs Denison's NCAC winning streak to 24 games, dating back to 2015.

The Big Red scored the first six goals of the game and closed out the first half on another 6-0 run to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.  In the first half, Kiely Noonan scored all four of her goals.  Claudia Rafi tallied a hat trick and Leah Israel scored twice.

Because of the 10-goal lead, the second half was played with a running clock. That didn't stop the Big Red from outscoring OWU 7-1 to lock up the 19-3 win.  On defense, Charlotte Godfrey, Ally Zimmer, Emily Marlatt and Emily Sonneborn finished with two caused turnovers apiece.  Jane Goodspeed led with five draw controls and three ground balls.  Halle Walsh scored one goal and tallied four ground balls.  In addition to her four-goal effort, Noonan also totaled four draw controls.  Noonan leads Denison in goals scored this season with 33.

Becca Jones played the first half and finished with two saves while facing four shots.  Hannah Magarian played the second half and also finished with two saves.

The Denison offense dominated possession and held a 41-8 advantage in shots.  The Big Red were 7-for-15 on free position shots and ended with 30 ground balls compared to 12 for the Battling Bishops.

Ohio Wesleyan goalie Kelly Coffyn posted 16 saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Big Red will travel to Wittenberg on Wednesday (April 11) for a 7 p.m. contest against the Tigers.
