DELAWARE, Ohio – Led by four finishes in the top five, Denison men's track and field competed in the 2018 Marv Frye Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University's George Gauthier Track.
The Big Red performances were headlined by sophomore Bryce Stricker who broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a fourth-place throw of 154'2" (46.99 meters). Austin McManus set his own PR in the event with a throw of 131'5" (10th place), while freshman Austin Burgess also reached a new personal best of 110'7" (16th place). McManus also recorded a personal record in the discus throw, reaching a distance of 111'9" (34.08 meters) in 13th place.
In the javelin throw, Denison was led by Ivan Maldonado's fifth place launch of 150'00" (45.71 meters), while James Dixie placed ninth with a 132'2" (40.29 meters) and Ryan Fleming finished in 13th with a 120'11" (36.87 meters). Fleming also found success in the high jump event, reaching a height of 5'10" (1.78 meters) in sixth place.
Rounding out the field events was Church Humphreys' seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 11'11.75" (3.65 meters) and Alex Chin's 11th place mark in the long jump of 19'1.50" (5.83 meters).
On the track, sophomore Jack Ruddy placed third overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.94, and Max Giarrusso set a new personal record in the event, clocking in at 1:06.97 in 12th place.
In the 800-meter run, Ben Foster improved upon his personal best time with a 1:58.11 to finish in fifth place, while senior Zach Munn placed ninth with a time of 2:00.33.
In the distance events, Clayton Watters placed 15th in the 1,500-meter run (4:15.45), and Adam Cromwell led the charge in the 5,000-meter run with a new PR time of 16:05.66 in sixth place. Rhys Fitschen-Brown landed in ninth-place with a time of 16:21.51.
The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, April 14 when they head back to Ohio Wesleyan for the 2018 All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
