DELAWARE, Ohio -- Led by four new personal records and six finishes in the top five, Denison men's track and field placed seventh overall at the 2018 All-Ohio Track and Field Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan's George Gauthier Track on Saturday afternoon. With 43 team points, the Big Red finished ahead of eighth place Baldwin Wallace University with 39 points and trailed sixth place Capital University, who finished with 54.50 team points. Meet host, Ohio Wesleyan, finished the day in first place with a team score of 116.50.
In the field events, the Big Red had their best day in the triple jump event, placing three in the top 10. Headlining the event was junior David Carter who placed second overall with a 45'9" (13.94 meters), while fellow junior Isaac Reed followed in third place with a maximum jump of 43'6" (13.26 meters). James Dixie also finished in the top 10, placing sixth with a 41'7" (12.67 meters).
Carter also competed in the long jump, finishing in eighth overall with a distance of 20'10.50" (6.36 meters), and teammate Jake Coplin landed in 17th with a 19'11.75" (6.09 meters).
In the javelin throw, senior Church Humphreys set a new personal best in third place with a launch of 172'4" (52.54 meters) to place him fourth all-time in Denison history. Ivan Maldonado trailed Humphreys by less than 10 feet as he finished with a 163'2" (49.74 meters) in eighth place.
In the hammer throw, sophomore Bryce Stricker broke his own school record once again with an eighth-place finish on a distance of 154'5" (47.08 meters). Fellow sophomore Austin McManus also set a new PR with a throw of 123'9" (37.73 meters) in the discus event, placing 19th.
Rounding out the field events for DU was Ryan Fleming who placed 10th in the high jump event with a height of 6'00" (1.83 meters).
On the track, Denison's Zach Munn placed third overall in the 800 meter run with a 1:57.48, while Ben Foster trailed by 1.31 seconds to finish in fifth place with a time of 1:58.79. Munn and Foster also teamed up with Isaac Andrews and Jack Ruddy in the 4X400 meter relay to finish 10th, clocking in at 3:30.34. Foster also went on to set a new personal best time of 4:00.64 in the 1,500-meter run, landing in fourth place.
In the 10,000 meter run, Clayton Watters placed 13th overall with a time of 35:39.51, while Ruddy added a 12th place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. A final top 10 finish was logged in the 4X100 meter relay when Dee Brown, Alex Chin, Carter, and Coplin combined for a 44.40 in seventh place.
The Big Red will return to the track next Friday through Saturday, April 20-21 as the team will compete in the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University and the Kenyon Spring Invitational held in Gambier, Ohio.
