GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Following a comeback victory over Redlands on Thursday in Granville, No. 25 Denison women's lacrosse suffered a 17-4 loss to the defending national champions and top-ranked Gettysburg College on Sunday afternoon at Clark Field.

Surrendering only one goal in the first half, the Bullets took control early as they started the first four minutes of the contest with a 6-0 scoring run, headlined by two goals each from Liza Barr and Kerry McKeever.

At the 15:59 mark in the first half, Denison scored their first goal of the contest when freshman Molly Fischer found Maddy Heher for her third goal of the season to cut the Big Red deficit to 6-1. Gettysburg finished the half with five-straight goals, including two from McKeever while Denison was playing one player down. The Bullets led 11-1 at intermission.

After a Gettysburg goal from Courtney Patterson opened the second half, Leah Israel cashed in on her sixth goal of the season with 25:15 remaining in the game.

The Bullets added four consecutive goals before DU's Claudia Rafi found the cage with 11:40 to play and just over two minutes later, Colleen Muldoon scored her first goal of the year on a free position shot, cutting the Bullets lead to 16-4. Gettysburg's Ella Orzechowski scored the final goal of the contest at the 7:20 mark, sending the Big Red to their first loss of the season.

Outshooting Denison 25-17, McKeever led all scorers with six goals and added three ground balls and four draw controls. Katie Landry also led the way with six assists, while Barr finished with three goals.

For the Big Red, Israel added three ground balls and four draw controls to her one-goal performance. Emily Marlatt's three ground balls tied for the team-lead and Jane Goodspeed totaled two ground balls and two draw controls.

In goal, Gettysburg's Bailey Pilder improved to 3-0 on the season after a three-save performance in 30 minutes of action, while Denison's Becca Jones garnered four saves in 30 minutes played.

Denison will return to Deeds Field-Piper Stadium on Wednesday, March 14 when they play host to Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m.
