DELAWARE, Ohio -- Denison men's track and field competed at the 2018 Ohio Wesleyan Open on Friday night, where they finished in fourth place with 33 total team points. Event host Ohio Wesleyan University took first place with 58.5 points, just edging second-place finisher Muskingum University who compiled 56.5 points. Franciscan University trailed in third with 51 team points.

Totaling eight top-five finishes and four new personal records, Denison's Dee Brown opened the competition with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash, logging a new personal-best time of 7.30. Fellow freshman Peyton Vining only trailed by .18 seconds to land in seventh-place with a 7.48.

Brown also added a top-five finish in the long jump event, placing third with a PR distance of 19'9.75" (6.04 meters), falling just behind teammate Jake Coplin who won the event with a jump of 20'9.00" (6.32 meters).

Coplin also turned in a sixth-place performance in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 24.86 seconds. Following in eighth place was Alex Chin (25.41) and Max Giarrusso in 15th (27.50).

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Isaac Reed led the Big Red in second place with a time of 9.51. James Dixie finished just .02 seconds behind Reed with a 9.53 in third place, and Giarrusso rounded out the DU performers in fourth place (11.08). Giarrusso added a fourth-place mark in the pole vault as well, reaching a height of 7'0.25" (2.14 meters).

In the weight throw competition, sophomore Austin McManus and freshman Austin Burgess both set new personal-bests on the evening. McManus earned a spot in fifth place with a PR throw of 37'6.00" (11.43 meters), while Burgess landed in eighth with his own personal-record of 34'2.75" (10.43 meters).

Denison will stay on the road this Saturday, Feb. 10 when they compete in the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. Competition is set to begin at 12 p.m.
