GRANVILLE, Ohio – Junior David Carter led the way for the Big Red on Friday night setting a new school record in the triple jump event at the North Coast Athletic Conference's Last Chance Meet held at Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
Coming into the night only half an inch away from Wallace Branche's 47'4.25" set back in 2015, eclipsed the mark on his fifth jump of the night, posting not only a new varsity record but a new Mitchell Fieldhouse and personal-best with a jump of 47'5" (14.45 meters).
Finishing right behind Carter in the triple jump was fellow junior Isaac Reed, who finished in second place with a 42'4" (12.90 meters). Reed also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81.
In the men's shot put and weight throw, freshman Austin Burgess set new personal records in both events, finishing the shot put in eighth-place with a 38'7", and the weight throw in 13th place, logging a distance of 37'8". Sophomore Bryce Stricker took Denison's highest mark in the weight throw, placing third overall with a max distance of 51'5.50".
With a third-place finish in the pole vault, senior Church Humphreys set a new season best with a height of 11'6.25" (3.51 meters). Jake Coplin also recorded a top-five finish in the long jump, coming in fourth with a jump of 20'0.25".
On the track, senior Zach Munn won the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:01.57. Rhys Fitschen-Brown followed in seventh place with a time of 2:11.12. Fitschen-Brown also took 11th in the 1 Mile run (4:48.98), finishing just behind Adam Cromwell's 4:48.77 in 10th place. The Big Red were led in the mile by Clayton Watters who recorded a new PR with a third-place finish of 4:34.81.
Denison will return to action this Saturday through Sunday, Feb. 24-25 for the NCAC Combined Events Championship held at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville. DU's James Dixie will represent the Big Red in the Heptathlon event.
