GRANVILLE, Ohio- The postseason begins on Wednesday for the fourth-ranked Denison men's lacrosse team. They will host the College of Wooster in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday (April 26) at 7:30 p.m.
Denison won the program's 17th NCAC Championship by posting a perfect 8-0 record in league play. Winners of 13-straight, Denison boasts the nation's second-best scoring offense at 17.9 goals per game. The defense is ranked eighth nationally, allowing 6.4 goals per contest.
Senior attack Liam Rooney leads Division III in assists per game (4.43) and is second in points per game (6.36). He became the Denison career leader in assists on Saturday after dishing out 10 helpers against Wabash. His 62 assists this season are not only a new Denison record but a conference record, as well. His favorite target this season has been fellow attackmen Will Donohue (44 goals) and Spencer Butler (39 goals). Denison has scored 250 goals this season and 44 percent has come from the starting attack.
On defense, Teddy Sawyer and Ben Duhoski have combined for 51 caused turnovers. Both rank in the top-3 in ground balls. First-year goalie Stephen Paras leads the nation with a 5.97 GAA. He has won all 13 starts and has a .538 save percentage.
Wooster enters the NCAC Tournament on a three-game losing skid. The Big Red prevailed in the regular season matchup on April 12, 17-6. The Fighting Scots trailed 7-6 early in the third quarter but Denison outscored them 10-0 over the final 29 minutes.
The winner of the Denison-Wooster semifinal will advance to play the winner of the Ohio Wesleyan-Wittenberg semifinal on Saturday (April 29) on the home field of the highest remaining seed.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children 18 and under. Admission is free for students with a valid NCAC student ID. The Denison Sports Network will provide live video of the contest beginning at 7:15 p.m.
