Oberlin, Ohio - The Denison men's lacrosse team fell to Oberlin College after a late-game scoring surge came up short, resulting in the Big Red losing to the Yeomen 13-12. Denison moves to 7-8 overall and 5-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while Oberlin jumps to 10-4 and 5-1 in conference play.
Oberlin took a 1-0 lead just 13 minutes into the first quarter, and the Big Red answered a minute later to knot the game up at one apiece. Building on their momentum, the Yeomen held possession throughout most of the first quarter, pushing the lead to 3-1 with five minutes left in the quarter. Despite its two-goal deficit, Denison answered with two goals of their own by
Macky Peck and
Charlie Haight to tie the game 3-3. Oberlin would regain the lead with 12 seconds left to go up 4-3.
In the second quarter, the Yeomen would go on a five-goal run to extend their lead to six before Peck cut the lead to five. Oberlin would answer with one more goal before
Teddy Hardy put in the Big Red's fifth goal of the day with one second left in the half, keeping Denison within reach heading into halftime.
Coming out of the half, the Yeomen continued to have scoring success, putting in their 11th goal of the day in the 14th minute. However, with momentum shifting,
Jonah Frank would begin the Big Red's comeback with 12 minutes left in the quarter, putting in goal number seven. Frank would later find Peck and
Kevin Berutich to put Denison within two goals of Oberlin for the first time since early in the second quarter.
In the final quarter, Oberlin gave up three goals in the fourth but managed to hold off the Big Red, maintaining a one-goal lead as time expired for a 13-12 win over Denison.
Andrew Albert faced 20 shots on goal and tallied 7 saves on the day. The Big Red went 16-20 in clear attempts and held a 13-9 advantage in caused turnovers.
