Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio-- Denison remained undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play after an 18-9 victory over The College of Wooster on Tuesday night at John P. Papp Stadium. The victory runs DU's winning streak to six. It also marked the eighth time this season the Big Red has scored 15 or more in a game.
Wooster entered the game ranked sixth in Division III women's lacrosse at 16.1 goals per game. Their nine goals marked their second-lowest output of the 2017 season.
Denison led 3-2 after eight minutes of play. That led to a five-goal run for the Big Red that gave them an 8-2 lead with 11 minutes to play in the first half. DU's goals during the run came from Claudia Rafi (two), Kiely Noonan, Maddy Heher and Reid Hirschey via a free-position shot.
Wooster made it a four-goal deficit after goals by Heather Szymanski and Emma Lawrence but four more scores by Denison sent the Big Red into the intermission leading 12-5.
In the second half, Wooster outshot Denison 17-12 but the Big Red made the most of their opportunities, outscoring the home team 6-4 to lock up the win.
Rafi led the way a season-high five goals and one assist. Noonan scored four times and assisted once. Hirschey tallied a hat trick on only three shot attempts and Claire Ludlow added two goals and two assists running her career total to 163 goals and 63 assists. She needs nine goals to move into second place, all-time at Denison. Her four points also moved her into third place in career points with 226, passing her former teammate, Carol Allen '16.
Paris Healey led Denison with five ground balls while Jane Goodspeed and Leah Israel tied for the team lead in draw controls with four.
Hannah Magarian turned in nine saves in 30 minutes of action. Becca Jones played the second half and posted seven saves. For Wooster, Emma Hambright made seven stops while playing all 60 minutes.
Denison will travel to Delaware, Ohio for a 3:30 p.m. match against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday (April 22).
