Denison men tie for 6th at NCAC Championship

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Big Red men's track and field team closed out the 2017 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championship in a tie for sixth place after compiling 40 points as a team.

After re-setting his own school record in the weight throw on Friday afternoon, freshman Bryce Stricker placed fifth in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 44'. Also placing fifth on Saturday was the 4x400 relay team of Isaac Andrews, Zach Munn, Michael Bonebrake and Jack Ruddy. The foursome turned in a time of 3:31.06.

Also scoring for Denison at the final day of the NCAC Championship were freshman Jake Coplin and sophomore Niall Clancey. Coplin turned in a career-best mark of 21'0.75" en route to a sixth-place finish in the long jump. Coplin's leap was a 10 and a half inch improvement on his previous PR set at the beginning of the season. Clancey also had a personal record in the mile after crossing the line in 4:26.89. That time landed him in eighth place and shaved almost three seconds off his previous top time in the event.

Ohio Wesleyan captured their second-straight team title, edging Wabash by three points 164-161. Allegheny was third with 109 points. Wittenberg checked in with 87 points, followed by DePauw with 71 tallies. The host Yeomen finished tied with Denison for sixth place, while Wooster (23) and Kenyon (7) rounded out the team standings.
