Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison jumped out to the early lead on ninth-ranked Brockport State but the Golden Eagles outscored the Big Red 7-1 in the second half to leave Granville with the 11-5 win.

After posting a 17-9 win over Fredonia in yesterday's season opener, Denison's strong play continued in the first 15 minutes against Brockport, a NCAA regional semifinalist in 2016.

Goals by Kiely Noonan, Claire Ludlow and Leah Israel in the first 13 minutes gave DU a 3-0 lead.   2016 All-Region performer Kelly Wall broke the slump for Brockport when she scored off an 8-meter attempt with 16:01 to play in the first half.

The Big Red responded three minutes later when Ludlow found Reid Hirschey for her first goal of the season, lifting Denison to a 4-1 lead.

Brockport State closed out the first half with three goals by Taylor Thomas, Jessica Boddery and Hannah Cullen.  During that stretch, the Golden Eagles won all three draw controls.  The last goal of the first half came with DU playing shorthanded after a yellow card on Israel with 30 seconds remaining.

In the second half, Brockport State continued to pour it on, scoring the first four goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead.  Wall accounted for two of their four goals during that stretch.  With 14:36 left, Denison's Claudia Rafi scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Israel making it an 8-5 lead for Brockport.

After a draw control by Ludlow resulted in a turnover for the Big Red, Boddery gave her squad a four-goal lead with her second goal of the afternoon.  Two more goals by the visitors set the final at 11-5.

Denison's five goals came from five different players as Israel, Noonan, Ludlow, Hirschey and Rafi all got in the scoring column.  Becca Jones got the start in goal for Denison and finished with five saves while playing the first half.  In the second half, Hannah Magarian played 30 minutes allowing seven goals while posting four saves.

Israel led the defense with three caused turnovers.  She also tied Grace Gavula for the team lead in ground balls with three.  Noonan posted three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

For Brockport State, Wall finished with three goals and five draw controls on six shots.  Katie Curran led the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.  Golden Eagle goalie Sarah Brown notched six saves while playing all 60 minutes.

Denison returns to action on Saturday, March 4 when they take on Allegheny College in Greenville, Pa. at 10 a.m.
