Denison men open season at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Denison men's track & field team opened their 2017-2018 indoor season on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Alliance, Ohio to take part in the 2017 Toy Drive Invitational on the campus of the University of Mount Union.

The Big Red were paced by two top-five finishes from junior David Carter. Carter's headline performance was a second place finish in the triple-jump, posting a distance of 44'0.75". He also captured a third-place showing in the long jump with a distance of 20'3.50". Isaac Reed finished just six spots behind Carter in the long jump, recording an 18'7.25" in ninth place.

Senior Church Humphreys continued DU's top-10 showings as he finished in a tie for seventh with a height of 11'1.75" in the pole vault.

On the track, Isaac Andrews led the way for Denison in 10th place with a 24.16 in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Jack Ruddy trailed Andrews by only .06 seconds to land in 12th place with a new personal-best at 24.22. Ruddy also added a top-10 finish in the 400-meter race with a 53.22.

Sophomore Bryce Stricker finished with two top-10 performances, finishing ninth in the shot put with a personal-record of 45'3.50" and fourth in the weight throw (48'2.50"). Freshman Nick Barry also finished in the top-10 for the weight throw, recording a distance of 35'3.25".

The Big Red will resume competition on Saturday, January 27 when they travel to Wooster, Ohio to take part in the Fighting Scots Invitational.
