Denison field hockey suffered a 2-0 loss to Rhodes College in the opening match of the 2016 season.

Rhodes broke the scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when Lauren Travis scored on a pass from Cami Sullivan after a penalty corner insert by Julia Schiciano.

Nine minutes into the second half, Rhodes struck again as Lizzie Wood deposited the pass from Christina DiFelice.

The Big Red got two shots-on-goal from Alyssa Bahel and one from Lucy Pearsall in the second half, but all three shots were turned away by Rhodes goalie Laura Eckelkamp.

Eckelkamp and Denison goalie, Ellen Westfall, finished with three saves apiece while playing all 70 minutes.

Rhodes held a 7-3 advantage in shot attempts.  The Lynx also held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corner attempts.

Denison will try and bounce back on Sunday, September 4 when they take on Hendrix on the campus of Rhodes College.
