DePauw edges Big Red in NCAC clash

Box Score

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Kelsey Doerr's goal in the 40th minute proved to be the deciding factor in DePauw's 2-1 victory over Denison on Saturday afternoon.

Despite being outshot 8-1 in the first half, the Big Red only faced a one-goal deficit heading into the second period. Doerr doubled the Tiger lead with her first goal of 2016 at 39:27 off a pass from Reilly Bruce.

Seven minutes after Doerr's score, sophomore Alyssa Bahel put Denison on the board with her sixth tally of the season. The sophomore's goal came off an assist by junior Jen Durbin at 46:48. The Big Red's best chance to score the equalizer came in the final five minutes when they generated three penalty corner, which included an untimed corner. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't manufacture a shot on those late scoring chances.

DePauw held a 14-4 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Ellen Westfall made four saves for DU.

The Big Red falls to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Tigers are now 6-2 and a perfect 4-0 in NCAC matches. Denison is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio to take on the Yeowomen at 4:30 p.m.
