Four quick goals power Denison past EMU

Powered by four, first half goals, Denison rolled to a 5-0 victory over visiting Eastern Mennonite University from Piper Stadium in Granville.  The win improves Denison's record to 3-2, while EMU drops to 3-3.

The Big Red took the lead in the seventh minute of the match when Alyssa Bahel crossed a pass to Abby Martone who was able to score from the cage's doorstep.

Nine minutes later, it was Martone who crossed a ball through traffic to the waiting stick of Lucy Pearsall who was positioned at the corner of the cage.  Pearsall's shot was good, lifting Denison to a 2-0 lead.

With 14 minutes to play in the first half, Bahel controlled a loose ball and scored from point blank range.  The fourth goal of the first half came just three minutes later when Pearsall deposited a shot from 7-yards away.

The Big Red outshot the Royals 15-2 in the first half.  In the second half, Eastern Mennonite went on the offensive, outshooting Denison 14-11.  Nine of those eleven shot attempts from the Royals resulted in saves for Denison goalie, Ellen Westfall.  She finished the contest with a season-high 10 saves which also matched her career-high.

Denison's final goal came in the 54th minute of action when Noelle Hubbard's crossing pass was redirected into the cage by Jen Durbin.  The goal was the first of the season for the junior from Ann Arbor, Mich.

Shots favored the Big Red 26-16 and penalty corner attempts were tied, 6-6.

Denison will return to Piper Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. for another non-conference matchup against Concordia University-Wisconsin.
