Denison captures record 18th NCAC Championship

Box Score

Denison defeated DePauw 17-6 to clinch the program's 18th North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday in Greencastle, Indiana.  As the outright conference champion, Denison also secures the top seed in next week's NCAC Tournament.

The Big Red scored 12 of the game's first 13 goals which allowed them to take a 12-2 lead into the intermission.  Four different players notched hat tricks, led by Leah Israel who paced Denison with three goals and two assists on just five shot attempts.  She also led the team with five ground balls.

Reid Hirschey and Lizzy Pellicane both finished with three goals and one assist.  Carol Allen was DU's fourth individual to score three goals.  That runs her season total to 39, giving her 142 for her career.

Denison controlled 13 of 25 draws and was led by Claire Ludlow who secured five.  She also chipped in two goals, two assists and two ground balls.  Jane Goodspeed added three draw controls and four ground balls.

The Big Red's remaining three goals came from Maddy Heher (two) and Virginia Hamilton (one).

Denison improves to 10-5 and 7-0 in conference play while DePauw falls to 5-10 and 3-4 in the NCAC.  DU will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when they host Allegheny College at 12 p.m.

Denison's 18 NCAC championships in women's lacrosse are more than any other conference school.  This is DU's first regular season conference title since 2012.
