Second half rally stuns Kenyon

Box Score

Denison rallied from a four-goal deficit by scoring five unanswered goals over the final 19 minutes as the Big Red posted a 14-13 win over Kenyon College from Mavec Field in Gambier, Ohio. The win keeps Denison undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play at 5-0.

Trailing 13-9 after Cassie Hudson-Heck's 32nd goal of the season, Denison jumped on the comeback trail as Halle Walsh scored on a pass from Lizzy Pellicane just 13 seconds after Hudson-Heck's goal.

DU trimmed the deficit to two when Carol Allen found Claudia Rafi for her fifth goal of the contest.  Only two and a half minutes elapsed before the Big Red struck again. This time is was Allen from Pellicane after a Jane Symmes turnover gave the ball back to Denison.

The Big Red was plagued by yellow cards throughout the match and with 13:28 to play, Emily Sonneborn went to the bench for two minutes.  Kenyon failed to score in the EMO and ended the game just 1-fo-5 in man-up situations.

With 6:19 left Denison provided the equalizer as Rafi scored her sixth goal of the game, tying the match at 13-13.  The eventual game-winner would come from Pellicane who drove aggressively to the cage after a ground ball pickup by Grace Gavula at the other end.

Over the final four minutes, Denison held off the Ladies despite two good efforts by Symmes.  With less than a minute to play a caused turnover by Rafi  locked up the victory for Denison.

In their returns to the lineup, Rafi and Claire Ludlow combined for eight goals and three assists.  Six of the eight goals came from Rafi who did it on only eight shot attempts.  Ludlow posted all three assists, four draw controls and one caused turnover.

Becca Jones got the start in goal and posted one save in 30 minutes.  Hannah Magarian finished with three saves while playing the second half.  Denison outshot Kenyon, 30-24.

The Big Red moves to 8-5 while extending its winning streak to four.  They will return to action on Saturday, April 23 when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
