Denison to face Luther in NCAA first round

Denison women's soccer is back in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 16th time in program history.  They will face Luther College in the first round at Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2:30 pm EST.

The Big Red received the automatic qualifying bid from the North Coast Athletic Conference after defeating Wittenberg, 1-0, in the NCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday night in Springfield, Ohio.  Meg Wozniak's goal in the 89th minute off a corner kick punched Denison's ticket to the NCAA postseason.

Denison brings a 10-5-4 record into tournament play.  Senior Jacquie Graham leads the squad in goals with nine.  Grace Murray follows with five goals while Maggie Armstrong, Anne Denz, Drew Wentzel and Wozniak all follow with three goals apiece.  Junior goalkeeper Jenny Herold has started all 19 matches and has eight shutouts. Herold's save in the final minute on Saturday night preserved the victory for the Big Red.

At the NCAC Tournament, Wentzel was named the Most Valuable player while Wozniak, Armstrong, Graham, Denz and Jessica Skelly were named to the All-Tournament team.

Luther College enters the tournament with a 12-2-3 record after winning the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship on Saturday.  This is the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Norse.  Luther carries a 12-match unbeaten streak into the tournament.

In the other first round matchup in St. Louis, Washington University (14-2-2) will host Knox College (19-0-1) at 12 p.m. EST.
