Closing out the Season: Denison will play its oldest, continuous rival, Kenyon College, this Saturday. These two teams first played in 1890, with the Big Red holding a 42-23-2 series advantage. Denison has won 10 consecutive matchups against the Lords, including a 30-17 win in last year's season finale.
Live Stream: Kickoff in Gambier is set for 1 p.m. Kenyon will provide a live video stream of the game.
Scouting the Big Red: After starting the season with seven wins in a row, the Big Red have lost back-to-back contests. Last week, a late comeback attempt was thwarted against the Wabash Little Giants. David Weimar led the Big Red with seven receptions for 176 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown catch to put Denison on the board.
Scouting the Lords: Kenyon started the season by winning three out of four. They have lost five in a row, including a setback at Wittenberg last weekend. The Lords are 3-1 at home. Earlier this season, quarterback Thomas Merkle set a school single-game record with 44 completed passes against DePauw. His 438 passing yards were also a school record.
Hunca Burning Love: Kenyon senior wideout Brian Hunca has caught 10.4 passes per game, the best mark in Division III. He is also third in Divison III in receiving yards per game (138.0) and total receiving yards (1,242). Last week, Hunca caught 16 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown.
Going Out on Top: The Big Red has won six consecutive season finales. Coincidentally, all six wins have come against the Lords.
Seniors Above .500: The Big Red is already guaranteed to finish above .500 for the fourth consecutive year. This is the first time since 1983-86 that Denison football will finish with a winning record in four straight seasons.
Figure Eight: A victory against Kenyon would mark the ninth time a Denison team has won eight or more games in a season. The other years were 1947 (9), 1948 (8), 1957 (8), 1963 (8), 1966 (8), 1984 (8), 1985 (10) and 1986 (9).
Smart Guy: Sophomore wide receiver David Weimar was named to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District team earlier this week. On the field, he is leading the team in receptions (62), receiving yards (907), and receiving touchdowns (9). In the classroom, Weimar maintains a 3.78 GPA with a major in chemistry. As an Academic All-District selection, Weimar advances to the Academic All-America ballot.
300: Through nine games, Denison is averaging 31.4 points per game. They have scored 283 total points and are on pace to top 300 for just the fifth time in program history. The single-season offensive record is 380 points, set in 1985.
Rack em' up: Senior safety Andrew Baird has been a tackling machine throughout his four seasons in Granville. The Shelby, Ohio, native holds all of the programs tackle records. He currently sits at 370 career stops entering his final game.
As Gebele Goes: Sophomore quarterback Canaan Gebele provides a true dual threat under center. The two-time NCAC Offensive Player of the Week leads the team in both passing and rushing yards. On the season, Gebele has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 2,102 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 587 yards and eight scores.
Reaching Paydirt: Sophomore tailback Cody Farley has totaled six rushing touchdowns this season. That is the most by a Denison running back since 2013. Farley has also caught 32 passes for 327 yards and a touchdown.
The Brothers Iammarino: Saturday will be the final game together for Tommy Iammarino and Matt Iammarino. Tommy is a senior quarterback while Matt is a junior wide receiver. In the Big Red's 42-28 victory over Allegheny, Tommy completed a touchdown pass to his younger brother. Both were standout high school players at Chagrin Falls H.S., just outside of Cleveland, Ohio where they were coached by their father, Mark Iammarino.
Sernus Eclipses 200: With 14 tackles in last week's game against Wabash, team captain Anthony Sernus passed the 200 mark for his career. This year, Sernus has amassed 60 tackles, along with three sacks and an interception.
Man-Hatten Transfer: Junior linebacker Hayden Hatten has been the poster child of consistency on defense. He has logged at least seven tackles in eight of nine games this season, along with a team-high 11 tackles for loss.
Picking Private Ryan: Safety Ryan Zinkula is currently tied for second in the NCAC in interceptions. He is also third on the team in tackles with 62. In his career, Zinkula has picked off seven passes.
