After going 5-2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, the Denison women's soccer team ensured a home match in the semifinal round of the 2016 NCAC Tournament this Wednesday.
The Big Red locked up the tournament's second seed after accumulating 16 points in eight conference matches this season. As the No. 2 seed, DU will host third-seeded DePauw, last year's NCAC Tournament Championship, at Piper Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
This season, Denison boasted the second-best goals-against average and surrendered the second-fewest goals (19). The DU defense also co-led the league with seven shutout performances. The Big Red offense finished the regular season with the second-most goals scored at 30.
Wednesday night's match will be the 13th meeting between the two squads, with Denison leading the all-time series 8-3-1. Roughly a week and a half ago on Oct. 22, the Big Red shutout the Tigers, 2-0, in Greencastle, Ind. Junior defender Drew Wentzel and sophomore midfielder Maggie Armstrong each scored in the first half to lift Denison to victory.
Senior Jacquie Graham currently leads the Big Red with 21 points and nine goals, while her three assists also co-leads the squad. Junior Grace Murray has scored five times and accumulated 13 points this season, while senior Anne Denz and Armstrong have nine points each (3 goals, 3 assists).
