Box Score Denison scored two goals in the first half and added another pair in the second as the Big Red defeated Wooster, 4-0. The win moves Denison's record to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. It also extends their winning streak to three and seven of eight.
DU got things going in the seventh minute of play when Abby Martone scored her seventh goal of the season by sticking a shot off her own rebound.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Jen Durbin sent a penalty corner into the shooting circle. Alyssa Bahel controlled possession just in front of the cage and took a shot that was deflected into the goal by Durbin, giving the Big Red a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Denison tallied its third goal six minutes into the period when Durbin crossed the ball to Charlotte Happel who was stationed in front of the cage and quickly pushed the ball across the goal line before the Wooster goalie could get in position for a save.
The final goal of the match came in the 55th minute of play when Martone fed Tori Rapillo for the tip-in goal.
Denison outshot Wooster 15-9 but the Fighting Scots held a 6-5 edge in the second half. It was Denison goalie and current NCAC Player of the Week, Ellen Westfall, who stepped up in a major way. She turned in five of her seven saves in the second half.
The Big Red will not return to action until Thursday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Springfield, Ohio for a 4:30 p.m. contest against Wittenberg.
