#19 Denison edges #16 Montclair St.

No. 19 Denison outscored 16th ranked Montclair State 5-2 in the second half.  That would be enough to send the Big Red to a 12-11 win over the Redhawks from Malvern Prep in suburban Philadelphia, Pa.

Montclair St. Jumped out to a 5-3 lead after the first quarter, but goals from Denison's Brian Miller, Will Donohue, James Meager and Jamie McCahan would keep pace with the Redhawks.  Trailing 9-7 at the half, DU would shutout Montclair St. in the third quarter.

Goals from Miller and Meager in the third would tie the game at 9-9 heading into the fourth.  In the final quarter, the Big Red took the lead when Blair Farinholt found Nick Caravana for the 11th goal of the game.  Meager would put DU up 12-10 with one minute to play in regulation, but the Redhawks would answer with a quick goal off the ensuing faceoff.  With 23 seconds remaining and leading by one, the Denison defense made a stand and held off a last-second push by Montclair.

Meager paced Denison with three goals.  Donohue finished with one goal and two assists while Caravana tallied a pair of goals and one assist.  Liam Rooney scored twice and Farinholt scored once and led with three assists.  Miller posted two goals while McCahan rounded out the goal scoring with one tally.

Clark Bullington posted nine saves in goal and Eric Baumgardner won 12-of-26 faceoffs and led the team with seven ground balls.  Teddy Sawyer and Drew Newman each caused three turnovers and the pair combined for seven ground balls.  

With the win Denison improves to 6-2 and runs its winning streak to six.  Montclair St. falls to 4-2.  Denison will return to action on Saturday (March 28) when they host Wittenberg at 12 p.m.
