Holmes' triple-double sinks Hiram

Denison sophomore Jordan Holmes posted her third-career triple-double as the Big Red overpowered Hiram College, 77-54, on Wednesday night in North Coast Athletic Conference action from Price Gym in Hiram, Ohio. With the win, DU moved one step closer to a home game in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 NCAC Tournament.

The Big Red jumped out to a 10-point lead before the Terriers scored their first points of the contest. Denison went on to score 20 of the game's first 25 points over the first 15 minutes of the period. DU eventually carried a 40-19 lead into the break behind Holmes' 14th double-double of the season. The sophomore post finished the opening stanza with 18 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks.

The two squads played a relatively close second half, but the 21-point first-half deficit was too much for the home team to overcome. The Big Red led by as many as 37 points on three separate occasions before walking off the court with a 23-point win.

Denison scored 50 of their 77 points in the paint, while 20 of the Big Red's points came off 18 Hiram turnovers. DU also held a 19-5 advantage in second-chance points. Denison finished with 20 assists on 30 made buckets and logged a school-record 15 blocks in the win. The Big Red converted 48 percent (30-for-62) from the field and knocked down 17-of-23 attempts (74 percent) at the charity stripe.

Holmes finished one point shy of her career-high in points with 31. She went 13-of-17 from the field and 5-for-8 at the foul line. The sophomore also grabbed 19 rebounds, rejected 10 shots and dished out four assists. Freshman Akilah Fletcher chipped in 10 points and three blocks off the bench, while Gabrielle Nottage had eight tallies. Mary Margaret Habel pulled in six boards, while Taylor Lindquist had seven points, three assists and two blocks.

Taylor Ratliff led the Terriers with 14 points, while Tori Milicevic added nine points. Kayla Yost finished with 10 rebounds.

Denison improved to 13-11 overall and 9-6 in the NCAC, while Hiram falls to 7-18 and 3-13 in league play. The Big Red wraps up the regular season on Saturday when they host Allegheny on Senior Day. Tip-off from Livingston Gymnasium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
