Big Red goes 7-3 after win over Kenyon

Box Score

Canaan Gebele totaled 349 yards of total offense while throwing three touchdown passes as the Big Red closed out the 2015 season with a 30-17 win over Kenyon College.  With the win, Denison ends the year with a 7-3 record.  Kenyon drops to 2-8 with the loss.

Senior wide receiver Dushawn Brown put a capstone on his brilliant career in the first quarter when he caught a 58-yard touchdown pass from Gebele, putting DU on top 7-0.  Brown finished with five catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.  He ended the year with 60 receptions for 1,008 yards and nine TDs.  He leaves Denison as the all-time leader in every receiving category.  It may be quite some time before Brown's name leaves the DU record books.  With 197 receptions for 3,193 yards and 29 touchdown catches, those numbers seem built to last.

Another senior, tight end Cam Layer, posted a career-high 78 receiving yards off his six grabs.  He hauled in a 5-yard touchdown from Gebele just before halftime, sending the Big Red to the locker room with a 20-10 lead.

The Big Red rushed for 156 yards, led by Gebele who finished with 81 yards off 13 carries.  Jordan Patterson toted the ball 17 times for 60 yards.

For Kenyon, Jake Bates was 19-of-37 for 172 yards and one TD.  Blake Calcei rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown while Ian Robertson led KC's receivers with seven catches for 41 yards.

The defense was led by Anthony Sernus and Andrew Baird who combined for 28 tackles.  The 15 tackles for Sernus was a new career-high.  He also added two-and-a-half TFLs and one half sack.  Baird posted 13 stops, running his season total to a team-high 93 tackles.  Senior Zach Pewitt added seven tackles, one half sack and three pass break-ups.

Kenyon's Curt Williams led his squad with 14 tackles. Cody Keenan finished with three TFLs.

With the 7-3 record Denison has strung together three-consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1984-86.
