Box Score Denison got three goals from Lucy Pearsall and a goal and assist from Elsie Humes as the Big Red topped Wooster 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The Big Red scored the first three goals of the contest in a span of four minutes as Pearsall drew first blood in the 19th minute when she knocked in a shot from just inside the circle.
In the 22nd minute, Jane Higley fed Humes who re-directed a pass into the cage for the second tally of the match. Just over one minute later, Denison's Gretta Finney sent a shot at the Wooster cage that resulted in a defensive save for Wooster's Rachel Wetzel. Off the rebound, Pearsall sent a shot high and over the shoulder of Wooster goalie, Danielle Slichenmyer, to give DU a 3-0 lead.
Wooster would get on the scoreboard just 20 seconds before halftime as Sarah McGrath scored via an assist from Rose Taylor. The momentum from the first half seemed to carry over for the Fighting Scots as Erika Womack scored off a pass from Wetzel just 2:34 into the second half.
With Denison leading 3-2, Pearsall would chalk up her first hat trick of her career when she sent a rocket through the defense after fielding a pass from Humes in the 49th minute.
DU would run its lead to three when Finney knocked in a shot off a rebound with nine minutes left in regulation. Denison outshot Wooster 27-14 and won the penalty corner battle, 18-6. Slichenmyer finished with 10 saves for Wooster while Ellen Westfall recorded seven saves for Denison. Wooster's third and final goal would come in the 63rd minute when Wetzel scored off a penalty stroke.
The Big Red (7-4, 5-2 NCAC) will return to Piper Stadium on Saturday when they host Oberlin College at 11 a.m.
