Big Red falls to Kenyon, 4-1

Box Score

With the Big Red leading first-place Kenyon, 1-0 at halftime, the Ladies went on to outscore Denison 4-0 over the final 35 minutes en route to the 4-1 win at Piper Stadium.  The win clinched a North Coast Athletic Conference championship for Kenyon.  For Denison, it locks them into the No. 3 seed in next week's NCAC Tournament.

The Big Red drew first blood in the 13th minute when on a penalty corner attempt, Denison's Lucy Pearsall took a shot from the top of the circle that was tipped in at the near post by Elsie Humes.  The goal was the fifth of the season for Humes.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the home team until the 29th minute of play when Shannon Hart scored in front of the cage off a pass from Maddie Breschi.  Eight minutes later, Breschi gave Kenyon its first lead when she dribbled herself free off a penalty corner insert.  Two more Kenyon goals came in a three-minute span as Hannah Drake and Katelyn Hutchinson provided some insurance for the team from Gambier.

Denison held a 13-12 advantage in shots and took eight penalty corners compared to four for Kenyon.  DU goalie Ellen Westfall finished with four saves while Sarah Speroff made eight stops for the Ladies.  Morgen Barroso added a defensive save as well for Kenyon.

Start times and locations for next week's NCAC Tournament will be announced by the conference office on Sunday afternoon.  Check www.northcoast.org for updates.
