Box Score Britta Marden's goal in the final minute of the first overtime period sent Denison to a 2-1 win over DePauw in Greencastle, Ind.
The victory completes an Indiana weekend sweep for the Big Red. It also gets them back into the picture in terms of competing for a North Coast Athletic Conference championship. With the win, Denison is now 11-6 and 9-3 in the NCAC. After Saturday's loss to Kenyon and today's loss to the Big Red, DePauw is now 10-2 in conference play.
The two teams were scoreless for the first 50 minutes and it wasn't for a lack of offense. Both goalies were having excellent games as DePauw's Sarah Guendert turned in five saves in the first half and Denison's Ellen Westfall provided six saves in regulation.
The first goal came from DePauw's Reily Bruce who scored off a penalty corner push from Rose Revolinski.
With just over four minutes remaining in the match, Marden took a shot that was saved by Gundert. Off the rebound, Tori Rapillo was there to provide the equalizer, forcing overtime.
With only six field players for each team on the field in overtime, scoring attempts came early and often. The Tigers took seven shots in the extra session, with Westfall there to provide four saves. The Big Red took four shots in OT and the final shot came from a stellar defensive play by Marden.
Roughly 20 yards from the goal, Marden was able to come up with a steal and she found herself going 1v1 with Guendert. Marden let a shot fly that found the back of the cage, sending the Denison sideline on to the field to celebrate.
The goal was Marden's 10th of the season. Westfall ended with 10 saves for Denison while Guendert stopped eight.
Denison now enters the final week of the regular season. They will host Wooster on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 4:30 p.m. before taking on Kenyon in Granville on Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. With their two wins this weekend, DU has assured themselves a spot in the NCAC Tournament.
